We just wanted to remind you about sharing your input about desired skills and characteristics for our next Davis County / Moulton-Udell CSDs Shared Superintendent. We have contracted with Grundmeyer Leader Services to assist us with the search; step one of the process is to elicit input from district patrons via a Stakeholder Survey. If you have not yet done so, please complete the survey as soon as possible. If you already have completed the survey, thank you (complete it only once per person). Enclosed is a flyer about the Stakeholder Survey, as well as the link to the actual survey. If you prefer, the direct link to the survey is below; the survey closes December 20. Thank you for providing input to the Boards of Education in moving forward with this most important hire. Survey flyer: https://5il.co/32jsd Survey link: https://forms.gle/qJMgcDdrtNfUiBDC8

School Districts across Iowa are in need of coaches.. If you have ever thought of coaching now is your chance to get certified. The next Coaching Authorization class offered by Indian Hills Community College is scheduled Saturday, Feb. 1 and Sunday, Feb. 2 from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm each day. This course is approved by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners. It is a 55-hour comprehensive coaching education course that, upon successful completion, will provide participants with the essential knowledge and credentials to earn their coaching authorization license. This is a hybrid class, 12 hours of face-to-face classroom and the additional online course work completed at the participant’s own pace. At the completion of the course work, participants will take two tests and need an 80% or better pass rate to receive the Coaching Authorization Certificate from IHCC. Once participants pass and receive our certificate, they can complete their application for coaching authorization with the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, completing all background check forms and submitting all the required fees at www.boee.iowa.gov/licauthorization/coaching-authorization. To register online for the Coaching Authorization Class, go to www.indianhills.edu/cews. Scroll down to the button that says, “Register for a Continuing Education Class.” From here, you will be able to search and pay for the class. Use “Coaching” for the search word. The cost of the class is $390 per participant. Credit card payment is required in order to complete the registration

Reminder for Senior Parents: FAFSA and Scholarship Information Meeting is Thursday at 6pm. What is the FAFSA? Colleges and career/trade schools use the FAFSA form to determine how much financial aid you're eligible to receive, which could include grants, scholarships, work-study funds, and loans. (That's right, the FAFSA could lead to grants and scholarships - which are free monies!)

Solutions over problems. Kelly Prickett from IHCC Regional Entrepreneurship Center visited with our Intro to Business students during their unit on entrepreneurship. They wrote down all the "problems" they could think of and worked to reframe those problems into solution-oriented business ideas! The students will continue working through business ideas and eventually develop a true business model.

What better way to get feedback than to ask the young students, right here at Davis County Schools!? On Monday, our Creative Writing students visited kindergarten and second grade classrooms to read children's books which they have been working on for the past few weeks. The high school students read to several small groups of students and asked for feedback from their listeners. Sharing their stories with the younger students allowed them to put the finishing touches on their project. Through our Creative Writing course, students write poems, short stories, plays, news stories, comic strips, children's books, an autobiography and other types of writing that express creativity.
