Preschoolers

Weekly note home- October 9-12

The children have continued to enjoy investigating our science tubs.  Thank you families for continuing to send in leaves, twigs and nuts from your yards.  We have added some pumpkins and gourds.

The children painted a few of the leaves form our supply and used them to stamp color on a pumpkin shape.  This project took several days and much concentration.  You will be able to see these works of art at conferences.

Thank you to all who have returned your conference slips. I will do my best to get your scheduled during one of your requested time slots. You will be notified of your conference time with a note home next Friday.

One of our stories this week was Pumpkin Jack.  It is about the lifecycle of a pumpkin.  We now have our own Pumpkin Jack in an airtight container.  We will observe him from now until May 2019.  This is always an exciting, ongoing experiment.  We will make some predictions and document the changes that are observed.

With the change in weather I would suggest that you leave a hat and gloves or mittens in your child’s backpack.  We will go outside each day as long as the temperature is above zero and it isn’t raining.

Our other stories this week were- Grand Old Tree, Henny Penny, and Where Once There Was a Tree.

Letter T was introduced this week. I am so pleased at the children’s efforts to write the letter and to locate words that begin with that letter.

Our social skills lesson was about the feeling of surprise.  Through discussion and sharing the children realized that a surprise can be good, when you receive a present or not good, when someone scares you.

Weather permitting we will visit McGowen Farm on Thursday, October 18.  WE will also have a visit from the fire department next week.

I will be at a training on October 17.  Mrs. Jane Bigsby will be my substitute.  She and Ms. Carla will keep the day on track.

Happy weekend!
