Superintendent Sam Miller said there is $4 billion available in the Race to the Top grant.  There are 41 states eligible but only ten states will receive the grant money.  If chosen, Iowa would receive $175 million that could be used over a four year period of time.  The grant money must be used to implement the Iowa Core Curriculum, increase student achievement and close the achievement gap.  Our district is already doing a lot of things in these three areas.  The president of the teacher union has signed the application.
