Dear Parents and Staff, 

It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of the 2007-2008 school year.  This was a year of many accomplishments for the Davis County Community School District. Through the leadership of Jayne Wells, the District implemented a new anti-bullying and harassment program. Our students and staff continued to work hard to improve student achievement. The gains our District has made reflect the dedication and commitment of our staff as well as the support and involvement of our parents and community. 

Another success this year that is reflective of what can be accomplished when staff and parents work together is our high school graduation rate.  The Davis County graduation rate was 96% compared to the state average of 90%.  Research is very clear about the differences in opportunities for a high school graduate versus a dropout.  Thank you to everyone who continues to help make Davis County’s graduation rate a success. 

I also want to recognize our retirees.  We have 5 teachers with a combined 116 years of service to our District that are retiring this year.  I wish the retirees happiness and success in whatever life brings them next, but will miss seeing them share their knowledge and experience with our students.

We look ahead to next year with anticipation, a little anxiety and much hope.  There will be many challenges and many changes ahead – several new teachers at the high school, a possible preschool grant for our District, planning and decision making about our high school facility, and continued fiscal and staffing challenges – but as we recognize and reflect on the accomplishments of the past year, we know that working together we can successfully meet any challenge that lies ahead.
